Operations Support Command

Our Purpose:

To lead the QPS in the development of operational policy, projects and the provision of specialist services.

Specialist Response Group

The Specialist Response Group (SRG) provides specialist response to manage and resolve high risk and counter terrorism operations and contribute to the national counter terrorism effort.

SRG also contributes to the enhancement of professional knowledge, leadership and incident management practices within the Group and across the Service through the provision of training and best practice advice in specialist and command areas.

The Group undertakes research of national and international specialist and tactical policing methodologies, tactics, training and equipment to establish benchmarks in their operational effectiveness. This includes the establishment and maintenance of strategic partnerships with external bodies, interstate and overseas specialist units and the Australian Defence Force.

Specialist Services Group

The tactical advantage - The Specialist Services Group was established in 1993 and is one of three groups comprising Operations Support Command.

The role of the Group is to ensure that Police Service personnel have adequate and appropriate specialist support, which is essential for the effective management of policing operations, both at the local and regional level.

Forensic Services Group

MISSIONTo provide forensic services to support operational policing.

The Forensic Services Group (FSG) provides a diverse range of field and laboratory based forensic services to assist police officers in criminal investigations.

FSG comprises more than 500 highly trained officers, both sworn and non-sworn, working from 37 facilities across Queensland. Each facility holds accreditation to the international standard for laboratories with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).

Scenes of Crime officers are generally the first forensic response to any crime scene. Their task is to undertake initial forensic examinations at crime scenes where photographs, fingerprint examinations and the collection of physical evidence including DNA are required, and to identify those scenes where other forensic specialists should be utilised.

FSG consists of DNA Management Section, Coronial Support Unit, Fingerprint Bureau, Photographic & Electronic Recording Section, Scenes of Crime Units, Scientific Section and Quality Management Section.  FSG is managed by the Superintendent, Operations Commander, supported by 11 Inspectors.
