Everyone enjoys going to a party or hosting one. For young people, celebrating with friends is an important part of growing up. To make sure your party is a great experience for everyone, our Party Safe web pages provide information to help you plan a safe, lawful and enjoyable party.

Out of control parties & events

To be ‘out of control’ a party must involve at least 12 people, with at least three engaging in out-of-control conduct. This includes things like:

  1. Trespassing
  2. Damaging property
  3. Disorderly conduct
  4. Fighting
  5. Obscene acts
  6. Unreasonable noise
  7. Throwing objects to harm people
  8. Obstructing traffic
  9. Being drunk in a public place.

The out-of-control conduct must cause (or be likely to cause) someone at or near the event to be afraid of violence to a person or property, or substantially interfere with people’s right to enjoy or access a public place. For more information, read our:

Register your party with police

Party Safe allows you to register your party with your local police. This can give you peace of mind that if something goes wrong on the night, police have the information necessary to deal with any issues quickly and effectively. Try and register your party at least two weeks beforehand so that police are able to supply you with Party Safe wristbands and other helpful information well in time for your party.
