Proof of Identity

Posted 01/05/2020

Upon lodgement of your New Licence Application, Weapons Licensing require you to present your proof of identity to a participating Australia Post outlet.

Documents are required to be current

All documents must be original and current. If documents are not original and current at the time of lodgement, you will need to ensure you have collected these documents prior to lodging your New Licence Application, either online or in-person.

Photocopies and certified copies of original documents are not acceptable.

Using your full name, date of birth and address shown on your identity documents

If you have lodged your online application with any spelling mistakes or if you have a middle name that you don’t provide with your application, but is on your proof of identity documents, you may not be able to complete your proof of identity.

If you have changed your name and your identity documents do not yet reflect this, a Change of Name document must also be provided to verify your Change of Name.

Proof of identity conditions

You will be required to present three documents to prove your identity as per document combinations and descriptions.

At least one document must have a photo.

At least one document must have a current residential address.

If your primary document has an address and this is not your current address, you will need to provide a document with your current address from the 'Secondary & Evidence of Address' document list as detailed in the table below.

If a foreign passport is presented, evidence of a visa must also be provided. For example, if the Visa is not contained within the foreign passport, a Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) document should also be provided (and be less than three (3) months old at the time of application).

Documents in foreign languages will require translation by a NAATI accredited translator.

Document combinations

You will need to present the following three types of proof of identity documents:

  • One Commencement document
  • One Primary document
