Collector Licence Types

When you make application for a Collector's licence for one of the following genuine reasons, you must provide the supporting documents as listed under the relevant genuine reason below, with your application and as evidence of your genuine reason:  

Personal Collector

Collector's - Personal

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Personal, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application and as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licensed for. 
  • Supporting letter – Collecting reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon.
  • Collector Secure Storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.

Documentation required when renewing Collector’s Licence:-

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
Collector's - Permanently Inoperable Handguns

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Permanently Inoperable Handguns, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licenced for. 
  • Supporting letter – Collecting reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.

Documentation required when renewing Collector’s – Permanently Inoperable Handgun Licence:-

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
Collector's - Collectable Handguns

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Collectable Handguns, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licensed for. 
  • Supporting letter – Collecting reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.
  • Historical Society membership declaration – A current QP0517 Approved Historical Society declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative proving current membership and verification that you are a genuine collector of weapons.

Note: The declaration is valid for 28 days after being signed.

Collector's - Modern collectable handguns

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Modern collectable handguns, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licensed for. 
  • Supporting letter – Collecting reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.
  • Prolonged and genuine interest letter – A written submission with sufficient information to satisfy the Authorised Officer that you have a prolonged and genuine interest in the study, preservation or collection of weapons.
  • Historical membership declaration – A current QP0517 Approved Historical Society declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative proving current membership and verification that you are a genuine collector of weapons.

Note: The declaration is valid for 28 days after being signed.

Documentation required when renewing Collector’s Licence – Modern collectable handguns:-

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
  • Historical Society membership declaration – A current QP0517 Approved Historical Society declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative proving current membership and verification that you are a genuine collector of weapons.

Note: The declaration is valid for 28 days after being signed.

Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and personal collector

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and personal collector, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licenced for. 
  • Supporting letter - Collecting reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon and should include advice the firearms are being displayed at a military re-enactment or historical demonstration.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.
  • Financial club membership – Military Re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category(s) of weapons required and must only be for the category(s) of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.

Documentation required when renewing Collector’s Licence - Military re-enactment/historical demonstration and personal collector:-

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
  • Financial club membership – Military Re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category(s) of weapons required and must only be for the category(s) of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.
Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and permanently inoperable handguns

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and permanently inoperable handguns, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licensed for. 
  • Supporting letter – Collecting Reason –  A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon including advice the firearms are being displayed at a Military Re-enactment or historical demonstration.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.
  • Financial club membership – Military Re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category(s) of weapons required and must only be for the category(s) of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.

Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and modern collectable handguns

When you apply for a new licence application for a Collector’s – Military re-enactment/Historical demonstration and modern collectable handguns, you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any categories of firearms you are not currently licensed for. 
  • Supporting Letter – Collecting Reason – A written submission outlining reason for collecting firearm/weapon and stating the intended use for the firearms. 
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with Sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016.
  • Financial club membership – Military Re-enactment – Proof of current financial membership of a recognised military re-enactment club/society. This proof is to clearly state your name and the expiry date of the membership, category(s) of weapons required and must only be for the category(s) of the weapons endorsed on your weapons licence.
  • Historical society declaration – A current QP0517 Approved Historical Society declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative proving current membership and verification that you are a genuine collector of weapons.

  • Prolonged and Genuine Interest Letter – A written submission with sufficient information to satisfy the Authorised Officer that you have a prolonged and genuine interest in the study, preservation or collection of weapons.

Documentation required when renewing Collector’s Licence - Military re-enactment/historical demonstration and modern collectable handguns:-

  • Renewal Form 6A or 6B
  • Historical Society membership declaration – A current QP0517 Approved Historical Society declaration signed by an approved historical society's representative proving current membership and verification that you are a genuine collector of weapons.

Note: The declaration is valid for 28 days after being signed.

 

Business Collector -

Clubs, societies, private museums, etc.

A Business Collector's licence (weapons) can be issued to clubs, societies and private museums. 

When you apply for a new licence application for a business collector's licence (weapons), you must provide the supporting documents as listed below, with your application as evidence of your genuine reason: 

  • Business/Employer Letterhead - A letter of authority on business letterhead containing:
    • the position held by the applicant
    • the authority for the applicant to be the representative for the licence
    • the nature of the duties undertaken in the conduct of your business/occupation
    • the reason(s) why firearms are necessary (e.g. public museum display etc)
    • the category(s) of firearms required to use
  • ASIC Business Registration Certificate including the extract detailing the officeholders. 
  • Proof of address for the Collector business premises e.g. rates notice or lease agreement.
  • Collector secure storage – Written details of the storage facility where the firearm/weapon is to be stored (including storeroom/vault location, construction and weight) and their compliance with sections 88-92 of the Weapons Regulation 2016, including photographs.
  • Safety course certificate – A current safety course certificate is required for any Temporarily Inoperable categories of firearms which the Representative is not currently licensed for.
