In December 2022, the Queensland Government announced a $10 million investment into an Engine Immobiliser Subsidy Trial to supply up to 20,000 engine immobilisers for residents in Mt Isa, Cairns and Townsville.

The initiative is proposed to conclude 30 June 2024, unless extended.   

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal traffic crash in Owanyilla yesterday morning, December 22. Around 4.10am, a motorcyclist was travelling on the Bruce Highway near Petersen Road when he struck a horse. A 46-year-old New South Wales man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.
