Let’s work together to end knife violence

The Queensland Government has introduced new knife laws, banning the sale of knives to minors and requiring retailers to securely store controlled items.

The new laws are designed to reduce the accessibility of certain items to young people, disrupt and deter violent offences while enhancing community safety.

The Queensland Human Rights Commission (the Commission) is working with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) to review practices and procedures and recommend changes to improve the recruitment and retention of women, First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse police.

The Community Experience (CX) Project commenced in May 2021. The core deliverable for the project is the QPS CX Survey. The aim of the survey is to create a baseline for community satisfaction that can be used to understand both the drivers of satisfaction and the impacts of any changes in how we deliver services.

If you come into possession of an unregistered firearm you MUST take immediate action to ensure it is surrendered either to a licensed Queensland Firearms Dealer or a Queensland Police Station for safekeeping until the registration process can be completed.
