Diligent and Ethical Service
'Diligent service' is determined by consideration of :
Has the member consistently carried out his or her official functions within the Queensland Police Service (QPS):
- industriously and conscientiously, to the best of his or her ability;
- to a standard which meets the expectations of the QPS and the community;
- in accordance with the work performance standards prescribed by the QPS.
'Ethical service' is determined by considering if the member has:
- acted with honesty and integrity in his or her professional conduct and maintained personal conduct to a standard which meets the expectations of the QPS and community
- maintained the ethical standards prescribed by the QPS.
When completing question 2 & 3 on the application for the QPSM refer to the above definitions for Diligent and Ethical Service. 'Service' is time served with the Queensland Police Service / Force or a designated organisation and includes conduct both on and off duty.
As part of the vetting process for former police officers, advice will be sought from the State Management Committee of the Retired Police Association.
Combination of service
In determining qualifying service, recognition will be given to members who have a combination of police officer and staff member service. However, recognition of combined service will only be granted in circumstances where the member was an employee of the QPS or a designated organisation.
Full-time and part-time service
Qualifying service may be accrued through full-time service, part-time service, or a combination of full-time and part-time service.
Service as a police recruit, probationary, cadet or trainee staff member
Time with the QPS as a police recruit, probationary or cadet in training to become a police officer or a staff member on a traineeship will be counted towards the award.
