QPS is committed to promote and maintain effective relationships with our diverse communities based on open communication, mutual understanding, respect, tolerance and trust.

Portfolio

Police Multicultural Advisory Group: Engaging and collaborating with external partners and community groups to strengthen relationships within the multicultural community.

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Consultative Group: Contributing to healthy, safe, positive and inclusive workplaces through the provision of advice, insight and guidance on matters relating to and impacting the multicultural workforce of the QPS.

Multicultural Network: Providing a culturally safe and inclusive platform to engage culturally diverse members of the QPS.

Multicultural Recruit Preparation Pathways: Supporting multilingual and culturally diverse participants through a pathway into the Recruit Training Program.

State Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Coordination: supporting the development, training and connection of the PLO, Torres Strait Island PLO and Cross-Cultural Liaison network.

Multicultural Action Plan 2022-2024: QPS have committed to 5 key actions within the Multicultural Action Plan:

  • Recruitment and Workplace Culture
  • Culturally responsive services
  • Culturally diversity data
  • Interpreters and communication strategies
  • Address racism and discrimination and promote inclusion.
     

Interpreter and translator services

The Queensland Police Service will provide accessible and equitable services to people from diverse backgrounds, the deaf and those with impairments through the provision of communication assistance and support.

The use of an interpreter to assist in communicating with persons who:

  • have limited or no ability to speak or understand the English language
  • are deaf or hearing/speech impaired
  • require assistance to communicate effectively

The QPS Language Services Strategy has four main components:

  • engaging communities and working collaboratively to provide policing services
  • meeting the communication needs of the community
  • providing appropriate education and training for QPS members
  • encouraging the development and use of the multi-lingual and sign language skills and resources within the QPS to enhance service delivery.
