How the OMCG Exit program works

A safe and lasting way out of gang life is possible.

Individuals motivated to end their involvement with outlaw motorcycle gangs may be eligible for the Queensland Exit Program. Launched in 2020, it is the first program of its kind in Australia.

About the program

Exit is a partnership between police, corrections and community organisations designed to support participants in taking a new course in life. It is not a reward for informing on a gang and participants are not expected to do so. It is a free, confidential and tailored service on offer to those who are willing to seek help.

The QPS acts as a program referrer, screening and referring potential participants to the community organisations responsible for program delivery and ongoing case management. Participants work with a case manager and can access health, mentoring, employment and training services as needed.

Community benefits

For many ex-gang members, staying out of gang and criminal involvement is challenging and influenced by a range of complex factors. Research shows offending decreases significantly when people turn their back on gang life. Exit programs can reduce gang-related crime and the harm it causes families and communities through a multi-layered approach addressing: drug and alcohol issues, employment prospects, family relationships and mental health.

To be eligible:

Formally leaving an outlaw motorcycle gang, also known as disaffiliation, is the first step. To do this, please get in touch via our contact form.

Queensland-based disaffiliated gang participants who are over 18, motivated and voluntarily willing to seek help are encouraged to get in touch.

Referrals will also be received from program partners as part of probation and parole programs to provide eligible participants a pathway out of gangs in correctional facilities.

A screening process will be undertaken with all potential participants. .  Participants are case managed individually and their details confidential.
