Minors primary producer / rural employee

Proof of occupation – Employer verification – To prove your employment on this rural land you must provide copies of three (3) current and consecutive payslips from your employer.

Evidence of property ownership:

  • If you are the owner of the property - A copy of the rates notice for property
  • If you are the lessee of the property - A copy of the lease agreement for property, or
  • If you are the manager of the property - A copy of the employment contract as manager and can act on the owner/lessee's behalf on the property.

If you wish to use weapons for an occupational reason for more than one rural address, this information is required for each address. If you are lodging your application hard copy at your local post office, you will need to provide these documents as a 'additional genuine reason documents'.

Genuine occupational purpose must be proven: Where a minor does not receive payslips from a parent, the parent/guardian will be required to provide a letter advising the duties of the minor and outlining the 'occupational' necessity for the use of firearms.

The parent/guardian should have an occupational/primary production purpose as well:  We will also give consideration to the parents’ licence and its conditions (For example: RE1 SC1 vs OC2 or PP2 – If the parent does not hold an occupational or primary production licence, it is unlikely the minor will be granted the licence for an occupational or primary production purpose).

Consider whether there is a need for a licence: If the minor is travelling with firearms between properties, the minor may have a requirement for the licence, however, if the minor is assisting their parent/guardian in primary production, they may not require a licence.

Applying online: You may notice that this genuine reason also requires the completion of a Form 1 – Annexure for Primary Producer or Rural Employee.  You will need to supply a Form 1 – Annexure for Primary Producer or Rural Employee with your online application however, if you apply hard copy, this will not be required.
