Email to SMS

Following a successful 2018 trial conducted in Brisbane South and Gladstone areas, Queensland Police can now contact members of the public by SMS when investigating reported occurrences across the State.

QPS members can send an SMS message to you from their QPS email account. You will be able to reply directly to the member by an SMS reply message. Email-to-SMS will make it easier for victims, witnesses, suspects etc. and the QPS to engage and resolve investigations faster. It will also improve the ability of victims to be advised of the status of their matter.

If you have been involved in an incident which has been reported to the Queensland Police Service (including crimes, traffic crashes and DV matters), you may receive an SMS message from a member.

How will I know the SMS is from the QPS?

All SMS messages will include information to identify it as coming from the QPS, including:

  • The name of the person the SMS is sent to, except if an SMS is sent to multiple people.
  • The name and rank of the QPS member sending the SMS.
  • The station/establishment and phone number of the QPS member sending the SMS.
  • The police report number, if relevant.
  • The SMS will end with Always call 000 in emergencies.

Email-to-SMS messages will not include hyperlinks or attachments.
