Recruiting police officers from a range of backgrounds is essential to ensuring the Queensland Police Service (QPS) reflects the cultural diversity of the community and provides effective policing services.

The Multicultural Recruit Preparation Pathway (MRPP) is designed to support the needs of bilingual and culturally diverse participants to prepare them for success within the Recruit Training Program and in their policing career.

  • About the Multicultural Recruit Preparation Pathway (MRPP)

The MRPP is a six-week course offered at the QPS Academy and completed before mainstream police recruit training. The objective of the MRPP is to prepare recruits from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds for the Recruit Training Program.

This program forms part of the Service’s commitment to equal opportunity and diversity in employment.

In addition to supporting the recruitment journey, MRPP also provides multicultural recruits the opportunity to build strong peer networks, enhance confidence, generate teamwork and gain foundation understanding of policing in Queensland in a supportive and small group setting. The program is complimented by a formal mentoring program to assist in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence of recruits in their journey from being a community member to eventually becoming a constable within the QPS.

To drive patrol vehicles, police officers must meet particular medical and health standards as outlined in the guidelines of the National Road Transport Commission. These medical standards have been incorporated into the medical and fitness testing associated with Stage 2 of the selection process.

For information on obtaining a driver licence, please contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
